ORLANDO, Fla. (WHTM) — Universal Orlando’s highly anticipated fourth theme park, Epic Universe, is scheduled to open on May 22, with ticket prices nearing $200 per person per day. As the debut approaches, travel experts are offering practical advice to help visitors manage costs without missing out on the experience.

The new park is expected to draw large crowds throughout the year, featuring immersive attractions such as the Harry Potter Ministry of Magic, How to Train Your Dragon Island, and Super Mario World.

“Epic Universe is going to be so exciting,” said Lesley Sawhook, a travel agent who recently toured the park during a preview event. Sawhook emphasized the value of spending four to five days at Universal to fully explore its expanding offerings.

Families planning a trip, such as the Hauser family, have expressed concern over the steep prices. “It’s almost $200 a person, per day!” said visitor Emily Hauser, highlighting the financial strain many face when planning a theme park vacation.

To reduce expenses, Sawhook recommends several strategies:

  • Consider On-Site Hotels: While slightly more expensive than nearby chain hotels, Universal’s on-site accommodations include perks such as early park access and free Unlimited Express Passes for the original two parks.
  • Purchase Tickets in Advance: Booking multi-day passes online can save guests up to $20 per person. Sawhook also advises against last-minute purchases, which often come with higher costs.
  • Utilize Travel Memberships: Discounts may be available through organizations such as AAA or Sam’s Club. Travel professionals can also assist in navigating the booking process, which Sawhook describes as “complex.”
  • Cut Souvenir and Food Costs: Bringing water and purchasing souvenirs outside the park can lead to additional savings.

Although off-season discounts may be limited in the coming year due to the park’s popularity, Sawhook suggests that visiting during October or November could offer slightly reduced prices.

As Epic Universe prepares to open its gates, families can still experience the excitement without overspending — provided they plan ahead.
