BATON ROUGE — Dixie Landin’ Theme Park will close its gates for good, according to an announcement made Monday by park owner Sam Haynes Jr., marking the end of the theme park’s operations after years of declining attendance.
The closure comes just weeks after reports confirmed that the neighboring Blue Bayou Water Park would remain closed for the 2025 season. While initial posts on the park’s Facebook page suggested only a seasonal shutdown, Haynes clarified that the theme park is closing permanently.
Citing “a lack of attendance” as the primary reason for the decision, Haynes said he does not plan to reopen Dixie Landin’. However, he indicated that efforts are underway to bring Blue Bayou back into operation next year. When asked about the possibility of selling the property, Haynes declined to elaborate, stating only, “That’s all I have to say.”
The permanent closure announcement came just one day after the park’s official Facebook page encouraged visitors to enjoy a weekend at Dixie Landin’. The promotional post, published early Sunday morning, read: “Weekends are soooo much fun at Dixie Landin Theme Park. Come see for yourself!” The park had opened for the season on May 23.
Notably, on May 14, all references to Blue Bayou were removed from the joint Facebook profile of the theme and water parks, signaling an internal shift in operational priorities.
The decision marks the end of an era for the local attraction, which had long been a staple of summer entertainment in Baton Rouge.
