A new study conducted by Nieuwe Casinos reveals that Walt Disney World, long considered a cornerstone of American amusement parks, is no longer among the top five most beloved theme parks in the United States.
Despite more than 52 years of operation in Orlando, Florida, Disney World fell short in rankings based on recent data compiled from Google and Tripadvisor reviews. The study indicates that other attractions have left a stronger impression on visitors over the past year.
Claiming the top spot is Discovery Cove, an all-inclusive resort also located in Orlando. Known for its immersive aquatic experiences—including dolphin encounters and coral reef explorations—the park received five-star ratings from over 85% of guests. Notably, Discovery Cove offers a more tranquil alternative to traditional theme parks, with no rollercoasters or themed rides.
Ranking second is Knoebels Amusement Resort in Pennsylvania, which earned 4.8 stars on Google and 4.5 stars on Tripadvisor. The family-run park is celebrated for its classic rollercoasters, swimming pools, and rustic camping accommodations.
In third place is the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster in Tennessee, home to the second-longest downhill roller coaster in the country. Spanning more than a mile, the ride lasts approximately seven to eight minutes and is praised for its scenic, high-speed thrills.
Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Florida secured fourth place, buoyed by attractions such as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Marvel Superhero Island, and Skull Island: Reign of Kong.
Rounding out the top five is Disney California Adventure. Positioned as a more mature alternative to Disneyland, the park features themed areas including Cars Land, Pixar Pier, Hollywood Land, and San Fransokyo Square, catering to teenagers and adults.
Other notable mentions in the ranking include Magic Kingdom, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Universal Studios Florida, and Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari.
The release of the study comes shortly after a fire incident at Disney’s EPCOT. A blaze broke out in a walk-in cooler at the France Pavilion, sending black smoke into the sky and prompting evacuations. Guests were removed from the “Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure” ride as smoke gathered overhead. The fire was quickly extinguished by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Fire Department, and no injuries were reported.
