Elitch Gardens Marks Start of Summer Season as Redevelopment Looms

by Evelyn

DENVER — Elitch Gardens Theme and Water Park, a Denver staple for 135 years—30 of them at its current downtown location—is preparing for another summer season, even as redevelopment plans signal that its days at the current site may be numbered.

While the possibility of relocating and rebuilding remains high, visitors are being encouraged to enjoy the park in its current form while they still can. A multigenerational destination for Coloradans, the park continues to be a prominent source of summer memories.

The upcoming Memorial Day weekend will feature the park’s annual fireworks display, one of the few public pyrotechnic shows in the area. The event also marks the beginning of daily operations, an unofficial but welcome herald of summer for the Denver community.

A Downtown Landmark

Situated in the heart of downtown Denver, Elitch Gardens is the oldest of Colorado’s major amusement parks. It offers more than 50 attractions, including six roller coasters and a seasonal water park.

Among the highlights is Twister III, a 4,640-foot wooden roller coaster boasting a 90-foot drop and a tunnel shrouded in darkness. The park also features an interactive ride designed by immersive art company Meow Wolf. Eleven water attractions remain operational throughout the summer season.

Operating Schedule and Hours

Elitch Gardens is currently open on weekends and select weekdays. Beginning May 26, the park will operate daily. After August 16, it will shift back to weekend operations, running on select dates through January 4, 2026.

Ticketing and Pricing

Advance online ticket pricing is available, with day passes through May 23 priced at $44.99. Passes for the remainder of the season cost $54.99. Season passes begin at $79.99 as part of an early promotion, with higher-tier options offering benefits such as discounted merchandise, free guest tickets, and complimentary parking. Children aged two and under are admitted free of charge. A $10.99 convenience fee applies to all online purchases.

As the park faces an uncertain future amid urban redevelopment, Elitch Gardens remains a nostalgic and thrilling destination for families seeking summer entertainment in the Mile High City.
