ORLANDO, Fla. — Universal Orlando’s newest theme park, Epic Universe, has faced a wave of criticism just days after its highly anticipated debut, with visitors citing extreme heat and a lack of shaded areas as major concerns.
The £4.5 billion park officially opened on 22 May, becoming Universal’s third full theme park and fourth gate at its expansive Orlando resort. Featuring five intricately designed worlds — Celestial Park, Dark Universe, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Super Nintendo World, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic — the attraction has generated global excitement, particularly among fans of gaming and blockbuster films.
Despite praise for its state-of-the-art attractions and imaginative design, the park has drawn backlash over its outdoor conditions. Guests have turned to review platforms and social media to express their discomfort with the high temperatures and lack of shelter, a critical oversight in Central Florida’s hot and humid climate.
On TripAdvisor, one reviewer urged others to “wear sunscreen,” warning that there is “no shade anywhere.” Another guest described the experience as “extremely hot,” adding that “all the seats were scalding.”
The concerns highlight a growing trend among theme park attendees who are placing increasing emphasis on visitor comfort, particularly as climate conditions become more intense.
Universal has not yet issued a public response to the complaints.
