Universal Studios Hollywood has announced the arrival of its fastest roller coaster to date—Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift—set to open in 2026. Inspired by the blockbuster film franchise, which has produced over 11 movies, the new outdoor thrill ride will become the first of its kind at the California-based theme park and the fastest coaster in the Universal Destinations & Experiences global portfolio.
With top speeds projected to hit 72 mph, the attraction will surpass the speed of the popular VelociCoaster at Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida, which currently peaks at 70 mph.
Construction is already underway on what will be Universal Studios Hollywood’s first high-speed, outdoor roller coaster. Enthusiasts of the franchise and theme park attractions alike have expressed widespread excitement over the ride’s development.
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will transport guests through 4,100 feet of track in high-performance ride vehicles modeled after Dominic Toretto’s iconic 1970 Dodge Charger. Each car will feature an innovative 360-degree rotational system, simulating the franchise’s signature drifting action. Riders will experience dynamic spins and aerial maneuvers as the track winds through various sections of the park, including over the park’s signature multi-level escalators connecting the Upper and Lower Lots.
The queue experience is designed to mirror the atmosphere of the films, with guests entering through a large, garage-style structure before boarding one of four themed ride vehicles.
The attraction will be located in the Upper Lot of Universal Studios Hollywood, joining a lineup of immersive experiences that includes SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™, Jurassic World—The Ride, The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash, and the iconic Studio Tour.
Although an official opening date has not yet been released, the announcement has already sparked travel plans among fans nationwide. “I’m always in Orlando’s Universal parks as an annual passholder, but this news means I’ll be looking at flights to LA as soon as I find out the exact opening date,” said Karen McGregor, a self-professed theme park enthusiast.
Travel packages for 2026 are now available, with AttractionTickets.com offering a promotion of a second day free with the purchase of a one-day ticket. Prices start from £89 per adult and £85 per child for Spring arrivals, with the second visit valid within seven days of the first.
The addition of Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift underscores Universal’s continued investment in high-impact, cinematic experiences that merge cutting-edge ride technology with beloved film franchises.
