Park staff emphasized the importance of checking park conditions before arriving. Visitors are advised to verify road statuses, operation hours, and lodging availability, as these can change with little notice due to weather or other factors.
Preparation for variable weather is also essential. Officials recommend packing warm jackets, rain gear, and multiple layers, regardless of the season. Yellowstone’s climate is known for its rapid and unpredictable shifts, making weather preparedness crucial.
Travelers should also anticipate challenges commonly associated with peak visitation periods. These include limited cell service, crowded boardwalks, traffic congestion, and reduced parking availability. To navigate the park more effectively, officials suggest downloading the National Park Service (NPS) app and offline maps before arrival.
Respect for wildlife remains a top safety priority. Despite frequent reminders, some visitors continue to approach animals too closely, often in pursuit of photographs. Park authorities stress that visitors must stay at least 100 yards from bears and wolves, and 25 yards from all other wildlife, including bison and elk.
