CHILLIWACK, B.C. — A vacant lot in Chilliwack’s Sardis area is being transformed into a nature-themed playground as part of a community partnership between the City of Chilliwack and energy infrastructure company Enbridge.
The 0.3-acre parcel of land, located on Crestwood Drive, will be repurposed into a recreational space aimed at enhancing outdoor play opportunities in the neighbourhood. According to Enbridge spokesperson Rawnna Low, the initiative addresses the growing need for accessible and inclusive green spaces and supports the city’s broader Greenspace Plan, which focuses on expanding public access to parks and natural areas throughout Chilliwack.
Construction of the playground is scheduled to begin this month, with an official opening planned for June.
The playground will feature a nature-inspired design that includes a leaf-shaped climbing structure, a butterfly maze, and an insect memory game. Traditional play elements such as a swing, rainmaker, and slides will also be part of the installation. The design prioritizes accessibility, ensuring children of all abilities can enjoy the space safely and comfortably.
Enbridge, which owns the property and operates a natural gas pipeline system in the area, is supporting the project as part of its commitment to community development. The company plays a key role in providing natural gas for residential heating, commercial use, power generation, and industrial applications across the region.
Visual renderings released by Enbridge showcase the proposed playground layout and design elements that will soon become a new outdoor hub for local families.
