The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), under the leadership of Chair Regalado Trota Jose Jr., will unveil a historical marker for the Celso Ledesma Mansion on May 15, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. The marker recognizes the mansion as a heritage house, following its declaration under Board Resolution No. 27, Series of 2024.
The mansion, an iconic example of pre-war architecture, is located in the heart of Iloilo City. It was once the residence of Don Celso Ledesma, a prominent former mayor of Iloilo. The structure is renowned for its neoclassical design and ornamental details, including eagle statues that adorn the fence posts. During the early 20th century, the mansion was known for hosting some of the most extravagant social gatherings in the region, embodying the opulence and lifestyle of the era, particularly in Iloilo, outside the capital, Manila.
The ceremony will feature Chair Jose presenting the historical marker to Vanessa Ledesma Suatengco, a descendant of Don Celso Ledesma, who will deliver an acceptance message.
The NHCP, the agency responsible for promoting Philippine history and preserving historical sites, aims to safeguard the nation’s cultural heritage through its efforts in research, conservation, and the marking of significant historical landmarks.
