KUWAIT CITY, May 12 — The Municipal Council, under the leadership of Chairman Abdullah Al-Mahri, held a session on Monday during which it approved several significant measures, including the registration of Dasman Palace as an official archaeological and historical landmark.
The Council also approved a proposal from the Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) to amend regulations governing public radio stations. The amendment reduces the minimum required distance between a station’s perimeter and adjacent properties — including private residences, schools, chalets, and farms — from 20 meters to 12 meters. Despite objections from three members, the motion passed. Municipal authorities clarified that any future requests to construct communication towers on state-owned land would require the Council’s review.
In other decisions, the Council rejected a proposal to allow commercial activities in areas designated strictly for warehouse use.
Additionally, a request from the Environment Public Authority (EPA) to revoke a previous decision allocating the old Shuwaikh police station site in the Third Shuwaikh area to the EPA was approved.
The Council also granted the Ministry of Justice’s request to renew the land allocation for the Family Court building project in the Granada area (Block 3) of the Capital Governorate. The renewal includes a modification to the boundaries of the designated parking zones to prevent encroachment on the Jahra Road right-of-way.
Moreover, the Council endorsed a proposal to reassess existing regulations concerning building permits and construction-related schedules. This review will encompass updated criteria and standards for marine chalets, investment resorts, and service centers across various regions of the country.
