ORLANDO, Fla. – Anticipation is building across Central Florida as Universal’s Epic Universe theme park prepares to officially open its gates this Thursday, a move expected to reshape the economic and tourism landscape of Orlando’s International Drive.

The new park, situated near Icon Park, represents Universal Orlando’s most significant expansion in years. With projections of drawing millions of annual visitors, Epic Universe is poised to become a formidable competitor to neighboring entertainment giants like Walt Disney World, while serving as a catalyst for development throughout the I-Drive corridor.

In preparation for the influx of tourists, businesses along International Drive are ramping up operations. Restaurants, bars, and retailers have increased staffing, restocked inventory, and introduced promotional deals aimed at capturing the attention of park-goers.

“This is going to be great for business on I-Drive,” said one local restaurant owner. “We’re excited to get new tourism in town, and it’s perfect timing for the summer.”

Brother Jimmy’s, a restaurant located in Icon Park, is among the businesses rolling out family-friendly deals, including complimentary kids’ meals with the purchase of adult entrées. The initiative is designed to appeal to families seeking value during their visits to the area’s theme parks.

Shara Pathak, owner of Brewlando, recently opened a second location at Icon Park, citing the imminent arrival of Epic Universe as a major influence in her decision.

“We definitely think there’s going to be a big uptick in foot traffic here,” Pathak said. “When we were considering this space, that was actually one of the things that pushed us in the direction to open this location.”

According to Casandra Matej, President and CEO of Visit Orlando, the park’s impact will ripple far beyond its gates.

“They don’t stay in that one theme park the entire time,” Matej explained. “They go shopping, they dine, they enjoy our arts and culture. So there is definitely an economic domino effect in our community.”

Local leaders and business owners alike view the grand opening as an inflection point for Central Florida’s tourism industry. Beyond ticket sales, the development is expected to fuel job creation, boost hospitality and retail sectors, and reinforce Orlando’s status as a global destination.

Special media previews are slated for Tuesday and Wednesday, providing an early glimpse of the park’s offerings ahead of the public opening. With millions of visitors anticipated annually, Epic Universe is set to usher in a new era of economic momentum for the region.
