Disney Launches Nationwide Talent Search Across Australia for Theme Park Performers

by Evelyn

Disney is casting a wide net across Australia this week as open auditions are held in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane for performers hoping to bring beloved characters to life at its Shanghai and Hong Kong theme parks.

The global entertainment giant is seeking a range of talent, from actors and singers to lookalikes and character performers, for roles portraying iconic Disney princesses, heroes, and animated stars. Roles on offer include characters from Moana, Frozen, Tangled, and The Princess and the Frog, as well as live-action favorites from the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises.

Auditions in Melbourne began earlier this week, with hopefuls for roles such as Moana, Tiana, Elsa, and Rapunzel showcasing their talents. On Wednesday, casting moved to Brisbane, where vocal performers were sought for the Shanghai Disney Resort, while Hong Kong Disneyland focused its search on singers for productions of The Lion King, 101 Dalmatians, and a variety of princess-themed shows.

Performers who closely resemble characters including Mirabel, Isabela, Jasmine, Ariel, Belle, Cinderella, and Merida were also in demand. In addition, lookalikes for male roles such as Captain America, Doctor Strange, Star-Lord, Thor, Loki, Oaken, and Kristoff were encouraged to audition.

The final auditions will take place in Sydney over the weekend. On Saturday, May 31, the search will focus on casting for characters from a wide array of Disney properties, including Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Brave, Raya and the Last Dragon, and Sleeping Beauty, among others. Sunday, June 1, will be dedicated exclusively to vocal auditions.

To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid passport, and be prepared to relocate internationally for a seven-month contract beginning mid-year. While prior experience is beneficial, Disney emphasized the importance of performers being dynamic storytellers with strong singing voices and the ability to emotionally connect with their characters.

Audition requirements were detailed and demanding. Singers were asked to prepare 16 bars of music with sheet music in hand, and to choose songs that allowed them to showcase not only their vocal ability but also their capacity for authentic, character-driven storytelling. Female performers were required to meet strict height guidelines, generally ranging from 160 to 173 centimeters.

Successful candidates will be offered competitive salaries, accommodation, and benefits packages in exchange for performing in stage shows, parades, and special events at Disney’s Asian theme parks.

This recruitment drive marks a rare and exciting opportunity for Australian performers to take center stage in one of the world’s most renowned entertainment destinations.
