Walt Disney World Resort has revealed that EPCOT’s iconic attraction, Test Track presented by General Motors, will reopen on July 22, 2025, following an extensive reimagining. According to the Disney Parks Blog, the revamped ride will feature a brand-new musical score alongside updated scenes that emphasize cutting-edge automotive technology designed to make vehicles smarter and enhance everyday life.
A highlight of the refreshed experience includes a new segment showcasing how vehicles employ advanced cameras and sensors to “see” their surroundings. This scene illustrates the principles behind self-driving cars and demonstrates the use of LiDAR technology to improve safety on the roads.
Departing from its previous conceptual design, the updated Test Track is grounded in realism, with parts of the attraction simulating a scenic drive through the Pacific Northwest. Walt Disney Imagineering’s Nathaniel Gearhart emphasized that the new iteration celebrates the joy of driving and creating memorable road trips with loved ones.
To capture the essence of the region, the redesign incorporates four native tree species—Cedar, Spruce, Maple, and Oak—enhanced by dense overhead foliage that forms a realistic canopy, immersing guests in the environment.
Test Track originally opened in 1999, underwent a major update in 2012, and is now preparing for its third evolution with Test Track 3.0. The attraction will close on June 17, 2024, to complete the transformation ahead of the 2025 reopening.
This refurbishment is among several new experiences coming to Walt Disney World this summer, aligning with the resort’s “Cool Kid Summer” campaign, which highlights 14 reasons why the season is an ideal time to visit. Additionally, guests can look forward to updates at Magic Kingdom’s Cars-themed Piston Peak National Park.
The extensive upgrades promise to deliver an innovative and immersive journey for visitors, combining thrilling entertainment with real-world automotive advancements.
