In observance of Juneteenth, the National Park Service will waive admission fees at all U.S. national parks on Thursday. The initiative, part of the agency’s “free fee day” program, aims to encourage public visitation and foster appreciation for America’s historical and natural treasures.
Among the parks participating in the fee waiver are three Florida destinations near the Tampa area: Everglades National Park, Biscayne National Park, and Dry Tortugas National Park. Each offers distinct landscapes and recreational opportunities.
Located approximately 210 miles south of Tampa, Everglades National Park spans a vast subtropical wilderness, home to rare ecosystems and diverse wildlife. Biscayne National Park, situated about 282 miles southeast of Tampa near Miami, safeguards a picturesque bay featuring vibrant coral reefs, islands, and mangrove forests. Meanwhile, Dry Tortugas National Park, roughly 230 miles west of Key West, attracts visitors with its historic Fort Jefferson and exceptional snorkeling and diving spots.
The National Park Service regularly designates free admission days on select holidays to promote accessibility and public engagement with the nation’s cultural and environmental heritage.
Juneteenth, commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S., marks the latest opportunity for fee-free exploration.
