Scientists have identified a previously unknown wild cat species inhabiting the high-altitude regions of the Andes Mountains.
Named the Andean mountain cat, this feline resides at elevations ranging from 3,500 to 4,800 meters above sea level, remaining undiscovered until recent confirmation.
This discovery marks the first identification of a new wild cat species in the Americas in over five decades.
The finding underscores the Andes as a region of significant biodiversity, revealing that even well-studied mountain ranges can still harbor undiscovered wildlife.
