CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The boundaries between science and art blur in Surrealistic Views of Life, an upcoming exhibition showcasing the artwork of Dr. William Roy, an adjunct lecturer at the Grainger College of Engineering. Known professionally for his expertise in nuclear, plasma, and radiological engineering, Roy also pursues painting as a creative outlet, exploring surrealism through vivid and imaginative compositions.
His collection will be featured at the Illini Union Art Gallery from June 5 through June 28.
The exhibition delves into surrealism by transforming real-world objects and events into fantastical visual narratives. According to promotional materials, Roy’s paintings employ surrealism as a means of storytelling that blends reality with imagination—often punctuated by a hint of absurdity.
Roy’s dual identity as both scientist and artist offers a compelling example of interdisciplinary expression, challenging traditional notions of academic specialization and highlighting the universality of creative thought. The exhibition is open to the public and invites viewers to experience an unconventional fusion of logic and imagination.
