WHITEHORSE, YUKON — The sound of children laughing, puppies playing, and paper rockets launching filled Riverdale’s Alsek and Blanchard Park on May 23 as the City of Whitehorse officially launched the second season of its weekly Fridays in the Park series.

Running every Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the initiative rotates through various parks across the city, aiming to foster community connection and outdoor engagement. The season opener drew an energetic crowd, signaling a promising start to the summer program.

According to Gurmanpreet Kaur, Whitehorse’s parks and public spaces coordinator, the event is designed to encourage families and children to explore local green spaces while learning from participating community organizations.

More than 1,700 residents took part in the event series in 2024, Kaur noted, and this year’s opening event already surpassed the early attendance figures from last season.

In response to community feedback, the city implemented several changes for the 2025 edition, including later event times and revised park locations.
