To mark World Oceans Day 2025 and its theme “Wonder,” Galway City Museum will host Ocean Celebration Week from Monday, June 2 to Friday, June 6. The initiative, developed in collaboration with the Marine Institute and Galway Atlantaquaria, features a week-long programme of free, family-friendly events designed to inspire curiosity and deepen public engagement with Ireland’s marine environment.
The schedule includes interactive exhibits, engaging beach excursions, and educational lunchtime talks that explore the richness and complexity of the ocean. Activities aim to appeal to all ages, from young explorers to seasoned marine enthusiasts.
“Ocean Celebration Week is a brilliant opportunity for people of all ages to discover more about the sea and its importance in our daily lives. The theme of ‘Wonder’ really captures what we hope people will feel — that sense of awe and curiosity about our ocean world,” said Lea Delhaise, a Marine Institute-funded graduate intern at Galway City Museum.
The partnership between the Marine Institute and Galway City Museum also extends to the Wild Atlantic – Sea Science exhibition, an immersive and interactive display showcasing Ireland’s oceanic story. This permanent exhibit offers insights into marine biodiversity, ocean exploration, and the essential role of marine science in global environmental protection.
