The Met to Showcase Young Talent in Annual P.S. Art 2025 Exhibition Celebrating NYC Public School Students

New York, June 4, 2025 — The Metropolitan Museum of Art will present P.S. Art 2025: Celebrating the Creative Spirit of NYC Kids, its annual juried exhibition of artwork by students from New York City public schools, from June 10 through October 19, 2025. The showcase, held at The Met Fifth Avenue’s Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education, coincides with the city’s Museum Mile Festival.

Now in its latest edition, the exhibition features 138 works of art selected from more than 950 submissions by students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade across all five boroughs. The selected pieces span a range of mediums, including painting, mixed media, and sculpture, and were chosen by a panel of prominent figures in the New York City art community. The jury included staff from The Met and the late artist Tony Bechara.

Heidi Holder, Frederick P. and Sandra P. Rose Chair of Education at The Met, emphasized the broader value of the exhibition. “The Met is honored to show the work of these NYC artists, and grateful to the families, educators and others who encourage their creative exploration,” said Holder. “As artists solve problems to reach creative goals, they develop empathy, critical thinking, and new modes of expression that promise exciting artistic futures for the City and the world beyond it.”

In addition to the main exhibition, 43 selected works will be featured in a digital display presented by the Times Square Advertising Coalition. From June 17, digital reproductions will be shown for two weeks on OUTFRONT’s iconic screen, The Cube, at 2 Times Square in Duffy Square. A kick-off event is scheduled for June 17 at 11:00 a.m., with remarks from city officials and student artists.

These works will also appear in a separate exhibition at The Authority Midtown Bus Terminal Art Gallery at 625 Eighth Avenue near 40th Street. Dates and times for that exhibition will be announced later in the year.

New York City Schools Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos lauded the partnership with The Met, stating, “Art is a powerful tool to nurture our students’ creativity and identities. The PS Art exhibition not only celebrates the artistic achievements of our young people, but it reminds us that their voices, talents, and contributions to our city matter.”

David Weiner, Interim President of Studio in a School NYC, underscored the transformative impact of arts education. “Through the arts, students are inspired to dream, imagine, and explore, all while gaining invaluable social and emotional skills,” Weiner said. “Each and every piece in this year’s exhibition is a testament to the power of the visual arts.”

All participating student artists will receive admission passes to The Met to encourage continued engagement with the museum throughout the exhibition period.

The P.S. Art exhibition is part of The Met’s broader educational mission. Each year, the museum welcomes over 88,000 New York City public school students on free visits and hosts more than 1,000 teachers and administrators for professional development programs.

Select pieces from P.S. Art 2025 will also be featured on The Met’s official website and shared across social media platforms using the hashtag #PSArt2025.
