Jason Voorhees, the legendary slasher from the Friday the 13th franchise, is set to make a chilling comeback this year at Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights. The new haunted house, titled Jason Universe, will immerse visitors in the terrifying world of the infamous machete-wielding killer.
Robert Barsamian, president of Horror, Inc.—the original owner of the Friday the 13th franchise—highlighted the enduring impact of Jason Voorhees over the past 45 years. “With Jason Universe at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights, we’re celebrating that legacy in an immersive way that honors the character’s brutal mythology while giving fans the chance to experience it like never before,” he said, calling it “a visceral homecoming for one of horror’s most enduring icons.”
The haunted house experience transports guests to the very summer camp where Jason’s reign of terror began. Visitors will navigate through Jason’s ramshackle cabin, the decaying main lodge, and the surrounding eerie forest, all recreated with meticulous attention to detail.
Sheri Conn, chief marketing officer of Horror, Inc., described the attraction as “a major moment for fans and for us,” emphasizing that Jason Universe bridges four decades of horror legacy with innovative storytelling and cinematic craftsmanship exclusive to Universal Studios. “This is more than a haunted house – it’s a full-on tribute to one of the most iconic slashers in pop culture,” Conn stated.
Halloween Horror Nights will launch on August 29 at Universal Orlando and September 4 at Universal Studios Hollywood. In addition to Jason Universe, both parks will debut a new haunted house based on Amazon Prime Video’s drama series Fallout.
Universal is also expanding its horror offerings beyond the seasonal events. Its first year-round horror experience will open in Las Vegas on August 14, coinciding with the expansion of Area15’s 20-acre entertainment complex.
